Exploring Chattanooga: Lookout Mountain, Chickamauga, Cloudland Canyon & more!

As we travel, we try to make the most of our time at each destination. We staying near Chattanooga, TN for a week at Lineman RV Park. There are so many things to do in Chattanooga, there was no way we could see everything. We picked a few place we thought would be fun, interesting, and a little educational - Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park seeing both Chickamauga Battlefield and Point Park, Cloudland Canyon State Park, Lodge Museum of Cast Iron, and riding the Incline Railway to the top of Lookout Mountain. We start our tour of Chattanooga at the Lodge Museum of Cast Iron. While this wasn't a planned stop, we thought it would be fun to see how cast iron skillets are made. We don't travel with many pots and pans, but we do have 2 cast iron pieces in our camper, and we've owned them for over 20 years. Next we visit the Chickamauga Battlefield. This is a driving tour with eight stops. We tried to provide a good overview of the park. The Battle of Chickamauga, fought from September 18th to 20th of 1863, it was a significant engagement during the American Civil War. It was the second bloodiest battle of the Civil War, ranking only behind Gettysburg. One of the places we A thrilling ride to the top of Lookout Mountain via the Incline Railway was definitely a memorable experience. At a 72.7% grade, this makes it the world's steepest incline. Once at the top of Lookout Mountain, we took a short walk to Point Park, another crucial place in the Battle of Chattanooga. While there are many other attractions on Lookout Mountain including Ruby Falls and Rock City, our time was short and we decided these would be better suited on to see on our next visit. Finally, we took a hike at Cloudland Canyon State Park. We followed the Waterfalls trail to see two beautiful waterfalls. Cherokee Falls is a quick hike from the parking lot and a nice waterfall. The more extensive hike is down to Hemlock Falls, trekking over 600 stairs. What is one of your favorite places to visit in Chattanooga?
