Visiting Independence Missouri, the Home Town of a Humble President

This week we stopped in Kansas City, Kansas for a full week. A lot of our time was spent catching up on work and talking long walks around Hillsdale Lake State Park. As with most campsites, we give you a good look at the campground we stayed in.

While we were at the park, Nick spent some time removing the angled entry piece to replace the rubber ends that had come off. He drilled out the old rivets, cleaned up underneath, replaced the rubber ends, then re-riveted the piece into place.

Then, we replaced our mattress. After months of complaining about how bad our mattress was, we finally replaced it with a new mattress that was immediately more comfortable. It is a Zinus mattress from Amazon, and we were happy to have found a short queen in their offering. We were able to receive the mattress at a UPS Store nearby and we are thankful that they helped us with this as well as a few other deliveries.

Our last stop for the video is a drive to Independence, Missouri where we visited the Truman Home and the city. The Truman Home was truly interesting and again, we found that free offerings tend to be really great. After our tour we were famished and stopped at What Up Dawg in downtown Independence. Harry Truman is an interesting president, not the least of which is because he was our last president to not have a college education. In politics he was a Judge, Senator, Vice President (to FDR) and President, however it seems he always saw that work as a public service and never wanted that to be his identity. The stories about Harry and Bess that we heard certainly made him a president worth hoping we get again.
